Weigh your ham to calculate your cooking time – 30 mins per 450g/1lb.
Place your ham in a large pan, cover with cold water and bring to the boil. Then empty the pan to get rid of some of the saltiness of the meat.
Re-fill the pan with cold water – you can also add some other ingredients to the water for added flavour such as an onion, celery, peppercorns or bay leaves.
Bring the water back to the boil, then simmer for the required amount of time based on your calculated weight.
Once the ham is cooked, remove from the water.
If you like, you can then add a glaze to the meat such as some honey or some maple syrup mixed with some mixed spice and cook the ham in a medium oven for about 30 minutes.
